Discovering what is out your own backdoor

As Australians crafters have been spoilt in recent years with our Aussie Dollar being a comparable rate with the US dollar. It was great. I got to try out overseas yarns without paying a small fortune for the privilege. But over the last few months the exchange rate has changed and it has not worked out in our favour. The last time I looked to buy from overseas we were paying nearly double the listed price.

While I do try and support Aussie businesses I have been trying to add to my list of preferred shops. Luckily I am a member of a knitting and spinners group on Facebook and they often have recommendations for shops. There are more around than I thought. I know that a lot of people sell their stuff on Etsy but I find the search function difficult. I am not sure if its just me or in general. Happy to be corrected if its just my lack of skills there.

Some new shops I have recently purchased from include Circus Tonic Handmade Yarn, Angies Studio Yarn and Sheperdess.

While Circus Tonic and Angies Studio Yarn can be found on Etsy,  Sheperdess sells through her Facebook page and various yarn events in Victoria.

I have only started to knit with the yarn I got from Circus Tonic. The colors are vibrant and the wool so soft. I have been knitting a lace shawl with it and I just love it. I havent had any issues with splitting and it is gorgeous to knit with.

I haven’t had a chance to knit with the yarn from Anigeis Studio or Sheperdess yet but I do have plans

to use it in the near future. I think I may write a review or two when I have had a chance to see how it knits up so stay tuned. 🙂
