Dyeing to have some fun

For the last couple of month Solar dyeing seems to have picked up some momentum. Probably because it is Summer here in Melbourne and the temperatures are finally hot enough to dye. So the little Miss and I decided to give it a go yesterday. The temperature was predicted to hit 35 degrees Celsius so we set out little experiment up.

I had purchased a couple of balls of pure wool from Spotlight and a couple of jars. We had found the instructions on how to Solar Dye thanks to the lovely members of a Handspinning group on Facebook

After soaking the wool the Little Miss chose Rose Pink food dye we had in the cupboard. Let me tell you she was a little heavy handed with the dye, but on the plus side we did end up with a nice bright color.

Once we had left the jar out in the sun all day this is the end result. This method of dyeing is kid friendly. The Little Miss and I look forward to experimenting more 🙂
