Who was your first Doctor?

Growing up Mum had one rule after school. We could watch what we wanted up until 6pm when the TV had to be changed over to watch the local news. We were lucky that unlike our friends we could get the local 2 channels but also the Melbourne channels. Like most families in the day we only had one TV so when Mum was busy or forgot to tell us to change the channel we were in heaven. That meant one thing…. we could watch whatever episode they were playing of Doctor Who. It used to always drive us crazy because sometimes it would start before 6 so we got to see 5-10 minutes of the episode before we had to change the channel.

I have very fond memories of watching Tom Baker’s incarnation of the Doctor traveling with K-9 and Sarah Jane Smith. He may have had other companions but I to be honest I can’t really remember them. I probably just blew some Whovians mind admitting that…. hang on it gets worse. Hopefully they won’t ask me to hand back my badge when I actually admit that since I have been watching Dr Who again I have gone back to rewatch my childhood favourite and *GULP* I don’t really like the old episodes. I have tried to watch them and will but I don’t actually enjoy them. I can look at them and appreciate the story and that it was ahead of its time. I much prefer watching the newer reboot series.

Why is she suddenly talking all things Doctor Who? Well its something else that I love and the new series is starting this month. New series, new Doctor. I was a big fan of Matt Smith so Peter Capaldi has some pretty big shoes to fill but I am withholding my judgement until I see a few episodes. Yes I can still remember uttering those words to my husband on Smith’s arrival “This Doctor is shit” and having to take it all back.

This was back when I hadn’t seen a lot of the new episodes and had been catching the odd episodes here and there. I had seen a couple of Eccelstone eps but mostly David Tennant. You know the later eps where he was kind of intense and when Smith came along it was kind of slapstick comedy in parts. That was when I decided to watch them from the first reboot series. Now I can honestly say that I love all the new Doctors and each for different reasons. So you can see why I am a little excited about the new Doctor.

  • Favourite Doctor: Matt Smith (although I do like all the new Doctors)
  • Favourite Companion: Donna Noble
  • Favourite Villan: Cybermen
  • Favourite Episode: The End of Time or Asylum of the Daleks
  • Least Favourite Companion: Rose Tyler (yeah I can see the lynch mob coming after me now). In my opinion she was good with Eccelstone but too whiney with Tennant. Well the love story side of it gave me the shits.

Bring on the new series!!
